Hi Miguel, tell us, how did your career begin in hospitality?
When I was 13 my father, who worked as a concierge much like me, used to give me pocket money to queue for tickets that he could sell to the guests in the hotel.
What is your favourite thing about being Head Concierge?
Meeting new interesting people and helping them have a great stay.
What attracted you to working at The Athenaeum?
My father and my 3 brothers all worked at the Athenaeum at one stage and they all loved it, so I thought it was the natural thing to do.
What does a typical day look like for you at work?
A cross between a ringmaster and a magician!
What’s been the biggest learning moment for you in your career so far?
My first day at the Savoy as a junior concierge. I saw and learnt a lot that day!
What’s a goal that you’re working towards right now?
This time next year Rodney…
When are you happiest in your job?
When a guest tells me that they had a great stay because of something I did or said.
What three qualities do you think are important for someone working at The Athenaeum?
A positive disposition, a good sense of humour, and a CARE-ing nature.
Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
Hopefully still where I am now😊.
